Lung transplant and lung failure Symposium

Presidente: Dott. Alessandro Bertani

Palermo, 22-24 settembre 2022 – Grand Hotel Piazza Borsa

Welcome letter

Lung transplantation is one of the most challenging yet rewarding modern clinical practices. It requires a true multidisciplinary attitude and is often dealing with a limited pool of organ donors. Surgical, medical, and administrative excellence are the mainstay for obtaining good clinical outcomes.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), one of the world’s leading Institutions for transplantation, and IRCCS ISMETT, a UPMC transplant hospital located in Palermo, Italy are glad to present the first joint Pittsburgh – Palermo Lung Transplant and Lung Failure Symposium.

The course will take place in Palermo on September 22-24, 2022. It will consist of two days of didactics and one day of hands-on training. The topics of the symposium will include organ procurement and management, DCD, EVLP, ECMO, lung transplantation for COVID, and hot topics in lung transplantation. The program is intended to offer an immersive experience to all participants and to promote interaction between the faculty and the audience.

The course will be in person. The invited faculty will include surgeons, pulmonologists, and intensivists from EU and Italy, who will join local physicians from Pittsburgh and Palermo. Participation is open to all medical and non-medical specialists of the field. The event will offer international CME credits.

Finally, we are excited to host this event following the pandemic. September in Palermo is beautiful. It will be the perfect venue for work and leisure.

Looking forward to seeing you in Sicily!
